Ancestral lights of the North

Looking back to summer 2018 where we spent a night in a farm in Iceland

We recalled being slightly amused when the farmstay lady told us that they would sound a bell when the lights were active while we waited in the warmth of our rooms. What great service!

We stepped out when the bell rang sometime after midnight.

It was pitch dark outside as we were in the middle of nowhere. No light pollution from any artificial city sources.

It was terribly cold, but we were brimming with excitement.

Rubbing our hands vigorously as we climbed a small hill near the farm house, we saw these evasive northern lights despite not expecting them during this trip.

We remembered feeling so small, and so in awe of these wispery lights that mesmerised Icelanders thousands of years ago.

Have you seen the Northern lights before? Do you remember how you felt when you first saw them?
